Your life can look “fine” on the outside while something on the inside is already over and begging for a burial. After walking through the wreckage of a tornado-damaged home, I share the moment that hit me hard: I didn’t just lose windows and walls, I lost a version of myself that needed to die so God’s purpose could truly live.

We talk straight to entrepreneurs, leaders, and visionaries who feel stuck between what used to work and what God is asking you to build next. We dig into the beliefs that keep kingdom entrepreneurs small and hesitant, including “I’m not good enough,” “I missed my window,” and “God can’t use someone with my past.” Then we get practical about the habits that quietly sabotage your calling: procrastination disguised as planning, people pleasing dressed up as being nice, overcommitting because you fear saying no, and perfectionism that stalls obedience. We also confront fear for what it is: loud, sneaky, and usually lying.

To make it actionable, I lay out the RISE framework for resurrection living: Release the old, Identify what’s dying, Surrender the fear, and Embrace resurrection life by asking God what He wants to birth in its place. You’ll get journaling prompts you can use today, plus a simple prayer for courage and clarity. If you’re ready to stop keeping “dead things” in the living room of your life and business, press play, share it with a leader who needs it, and subscribe, leave a review, or send a message with what you’re choosing to release.

When the Storm Leaves Silence: What Has to Die First

SPEAKER_00

So as I stood in the damaged shell of my home, the windows were blown out, there was debris everywhere, paper scattered like leaves in the wind. The roar of the tornado was gone, but the silence that followed was deafening. In that moment, I didn't just lose the security of my cozy home. I lost a version of myself I didn't actually realize that it needed to die. And that's when something hit me. Some things have to die so that God's purpose in you can truly live. And that's what we're going to talk about today. As an entrepreneur, as a leader, as a visionary, if you're listening, chances are there's something God is asking you to

bury. And it's not to punish you, but it's to prepare you for resurrection. You see, the empty tomb wasn't just proof that Jesus overcame death, it's an ongoing invitation to you to leave behind what no longer is serving your calling. And so I want to walk through what that might actually mean for you. You see, dead things don't belong in the living room.

Dead Things Don't Belong in Your Business

SPEAKER_00

John chapter twelve, verse twenty four tells us this. Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it produces much grain. Every business, every leader, every ministry reaches a point of choice. Continue clinging to what once worked or let go so God can do something new. In business, we often try to keep dead programs or outdated services or expired marketing tactics alive out of fear. But those old wineskins cannot carry the fresh anointing God wants to pour out. And in our personal lives, we carry grudges and insecurities and false identities that are quietly choking out our ability to grow. Letting go doesn't mean giving up, it does mean surrendering the old to make room for God's best. Here are some beliefs that need to be crucified.

Beliefs That Need to Be Crucified

SPEAKER_00

What are some of the beliefs that maybe are holding you hostage? Here's some of them that I know need to be crucified in your life and my life. Number one, I'm not good enough. Number two, I've missed my window. Number three, God can't use someone with my past. Number four, if I go all in I'll lose what I have. If any of those thoughts or beliefs are something rolling around in your life, it's time to crucify those things and put them to death. Those aren't just thoughts, they're lies, and they are inner agreements that need to be broken. Romans twelve two says this do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

The Battlefield of the Mind for Kingdom Entrepreneurs

SPEAKER_00

The battlefield of the mind is where most kingdom entrepreneurs are either going to lose or they're going to win. Back in 2011, I had to confront a deep seated scarcity mindset. I had been trained to think small, to survive and not thrive. But stepping into the vision God had given me for simplicity marketing required faith and not fear. It meant seeing myself the way that he sees me, not through the filter of past failures, but as an overcomer, as victorious. And if your beliefs are not aligned with God's word, if they're not aligned with what he has spoken over your life, then they are not serving your assignment. And it's time to take those thoughts captive and bury them once and for all.

Habits That Need to Be Buried

SPEAKER_00

You're also going to find that there are habits that need to be buried. Your habits are either reinforcing your calling or they are sabotaging that calling. That could be procrastination that is disguised as planning, people pleasing that is dressed up as being nice, overcommitting because you're afraid to say no, or perfectionism that stalls your obedience. Hebrews 12:1 says, Let us strip off every weight that slows us down and run with endurance the race that God has set before us. One of the biggest breakthroughs in my business came not from a new tool or course, but from simply restructuring my mornings. I carved out time for prayer, scripture, and focused planning before ever diving into my work.

Fears That Need to Die

SPEAKER_00

It was a small adjustment, but it shifted everything in my life. Remember, God isn't calling you to be busy, He's calling you to be fruitful. And the fruitfulness often begins with letting go of what's simply familiar, but no longer effective. There's also fears that need to die. Fear is loud, but fear is also a liar. And it rarely shows up in obvious ways. Fear says, don't launch that offer. You're not ready. But the spirit of God speaks in a different language. 2 Timothy 1.7 says this for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. You know, fear almost stopped me from launching the Total Transformation Summit. That's been my flagship two-day course that I've taught for over 10 years now. I worried about how people would receive it, who would attend, and whether I was even the right person to lead it. But the truth is, God doesn't call the fearless, he calls the faithful. And when we take bold steps in obedience, courage catches up. It's time for you to bury the fear that's been holding you back from your next level. I want to give you a simple framework you can remember. We're going to call this the RISE framework. RISE is the acronym. And it's your path to resurrection living. Because God doesn't call you to death without offering resurrection.

The RISE Framework: Your Path to Resurrection Living

SPEAKER_00

And so this framework will help you discern what needs to die and what needs to rise. The R is release, release the old. The I is identify what's dying. Be honest about what's not working anymore. The S is surrender the fear. Name the fear and lay it before God. The E is embrace resurrection life. Ask God what He wants to birth in its place. Print this out. Post it somewhere you can look at it often. A mirror, a whiteboard on your desk, on your computer. Let it guide your reflection and be your next steps. And here's some reflection prompts for you, and be real with yourself as you go through these. Take 10

Reflection Prompts & Journal Exercise

to 15 minutes and journal through these and then pray over your responses. What belief needs to die in you today? What habit is quietly killing your calling? What fear are you still feeding that God has already defeated? Are you trying to keep something on life support that God has already called to die? And here's a bonus step. Share one of your answers with a trusted friend or mentor or somebody in your mastermind group. Because vulnerability is the doorway to freedom. And then here's a call to courage. Just step out into the light with this. Isaiah 43 19 says this Behold, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs forth. Do you not perceive it? The truth is, you don't need another pep talk. You need resurrection.

A Call to Courage & Closing Prayer

SPEAKER_00

And it starts by making peace with the grave. Some of the things you're fighting to keep alive are actually holding you back. And what God wants to bring forth is so much better than what you're hanging on to. The tomb is not the end, it's actually the beginning of a new life. So watch what rises. Here's a simple prayer that you can pray, and I'm going to pray it now, and you can pray it along with me. Lord, reveal what in me must die so that your life can flourish in me. Give me the courage to release the old, the discernment to recognize what no longer belongs, and the faith to rise with you. I trust you to bring resurrection where I once saw only ruin. In Jesus' name. Amen. So what's your next step? Are you ready to bury what's holding you back and step into your resurrection session, your resurrection season? If you need help walking through this next step, you're ready to step into that next season, schedule a clarity call with me. You can do that. Come to Carlwillis.com. There's a coaching section on the website. Schedule that call. I'd be happy to talk with you through that. And be sure and share this episode with somebody who needs to hear it, or another kingdom minded leader that you think this would be an encouragement to. And I look forward to talking with you on our next episode.
